Call of duty 5.

I’ve just saw the news, CoD 5 on it’s way. Here is what I’ve found.

A few features:

– It’s built on the Call of Duty 4 engine, and Infinity Ward has been giving feedback on the game just as Treyarch gave Feedback on COD4.

– It’s the first Treyarch Call Of Duty to have a 2-year development cycle. UNLIKE infinity Ward, Treyarch have had to make games in a year. COD3 they made in 8 months and they practically admitted at the event that COD3 could have been better.

– It features all the stuff from COD4 and more. Including the multiplayer perks, flying shooting levels, harrowing storyline.

– It looks amazing too and plays much more like Modern Warfare than COD3. No shaky shooting, story driven like COD4, COD4 style scenarios and harrowing scenes.

– It features online co-operative AND vehicle based combat.

Eurogamer.net:

Call of Duty: World at War is set back in World War II amid the Pacific struggle between the US and Japan.

Content is said to be as gritty and mature as any game around. Apparently the opening shows a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat and turning to dish out a similar fate to you. Is that gritty and mature enough for you? Is it?

Below are some of the known details on the game, as reported by popular gaming forum, NeoGAF.

Gameplay:

-A flamethrower will be available in the game, and is apparently based off of the design and handling of the armament in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This lethal weapon can burn the skin off of your enemies.

-The player is able to shoot through cover, “with enough bullets, the player causes enough damage to one of the walls to create a hole big enough to walk through.”

-The game allows you to swim for the first time in the series, although movement will be severely limited, with your character only capable of walking at half speed.

Co-op:

-The game will feature a four-player online co-op mode, in addition to a two-player split screen co-op mode.

-COD 5 incorporates a “metagame” scoring system, whereby your earn points to unlock special co-op perks.

-One demo showcased one player attracting the attention of an enemy tank, while another proceeds to climb on top and throws a grenade into its hatch, killing its occupants.

Other:

-16 players online up to any one time.

-Game utilizes COD4 engine, “Environments are much destructible, it’s possible to burn objects or blow them to pieces. Bodies and objects float in water. Impressive lighting.”

-Lead development platform is Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

-Two year development schedule

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Update:

Call of Duty: World at War has four-way co-op

When I saw this, I was thinking, man co-op and flame throwers, this game is going to be soo awesome, can’t wait for it to come out.

“With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game,” said Treyarch boss Mark Lamia. “We’re excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools – like co-op and the flamethrower – to succeed in the epic fight.”

BTW, don’t hit yourself in the nuts with a yoyo while you are at the office, it really hurts, and it’s kind of lame to see your friends and coworkers laugh at you … damn you George, and your damn yoyo’s 😐

Hard to be a God.

Release date: 18th Apr 2008.

It’s a PC role-playing game being developed by Russian brain-box Akella, and is based on the 1964 sci-fi novel by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.

This tale takes place in the medieval world of Arkanar, a land now under the strict rule of an emerging Church, which seeks to wipe out the progressive thinking of individuals like the main hero Don Rumata.

Akella will work closely with Boris Natanovich Strugatsky to recreate the atmosphere and tension of the book, boasting gritty realism and a vast range of social intricacies.

One of the interesting approaches is the existence of two eras, the medieval and alternative future. This leads to a wide variety of weapon types, from swords and bows to miniguns, and full-plate armour to high-tech night-vision. Although we know which we’d rather have.

The combat is promised to be dynamic and made up of special attacks and abilities, which will be complemented by characters you add to your party along the way. Otherwise it sounds as though it’s fairly familiar RPG territory, with stacks of equipment to collect and skills to improve.

“We are proud to extend our partnership with Akella, one of the Russia’s most talented development and publishing companies,” said Arnaud Blacher, managing director of Nobilis. “‘Hard to Be a God’ is clearly a unique game in its genre and is sure to capture the attention of the gaming community via its many qualities and huge potential.”

RESISTANCE 2.

Genre: Goty
Release: Fall 2008
Platform: PlayStation 3
Developer: Insomniac Games

First Official Screens released!

The inevitable sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man has finally been unveiled.

It’s the cover story on the February issue of US magazine Game Informer. The game will feature boasts co-operative play for up to eight players, plus enormous 60-player battles over PSN.

On top of this are two full campaigns (one may be a co-operative endeavour) set in what could be New York, if the Brooklyn Bridge-alike on the cover is anything to go by. We’ll call it Earth for now.

There is no clarification as to whether Manchester Cathedral will return for a cameo.

Resistance was developed by Ratchet & Clank brainbox Insomniac Games and launched alongside the PS3 in the US and Europe.

Unfortunately it failed to command top-end scores; the game was chastised for its generic environments and enemies and a disappointing range of weaponry from a usually abundant creative talent. “Just a bit limp,” reckons Tom.

• One campaign focusing on Nathan Hale across 1950’s USA invaded by the Chimera.
Game starts out with Hale getting shot down in Iceland (this is the first level) and the country getting overrun by the Chimera. He barely manages to escape alive back to the USA. Nathan Hale is there recruited into a top secret program called the Sentinels, other soldiers who are immune to the virus. Alongside each other they train and prepare for the war. Two years go by and then the shit hits the fans. The Chimera invades with hundreds of gigantic crafts attacking both coastal shores of the USA. UNITED WE FALL.
• One campaign specifically crafted for Co-op focusing on a squad of soldiers, supports 2 players offline, 8 players Online (Co-op). Story runs parallel to the singleplayer with a bit more focus on level flow instead of story presentation. Each players have different classes.
• Online Multiplayer (dedicated servers with faster matchmaking than any game before) supporting 60 people, lobbies for individual squads. Each squad is given different objectives and the (huge) levels flow such that it’s squad versus squad instead of hoping everyone together.
• Classes for Co-op, templates include Heavy which is equipped with a chaingun and is powered by the amount of kills he makes which again recharges a mobile shield. There’s a Special Ops class that has a re-engineered bullseye rifle with scope functionality and extreme stopping power. Also there’s a Medic class equipped with a Medicator gun that shoots red damaging bolts at enemies and blue healing bolts at comrades.
• Mobile phone quality headset voice transfer
• Huge graphical leap with textures being sharp both close and far away. Shaders, shadowing and lighting greatly improved. Game also has a much wider color palette.
• Scaled AI so what’s closer to the player and in view gets more sophisticated behavior compared to those far away.
• Randomized layout for certain areas in the Co-op campaign (also procedurally animated clouds).
• Boss fights in FPS gaming finally done right, enemies far bigger than the tallest seen in the original game.
• New creatures including Chameleons.
• Insane stat tracking & Community features coupled with MyResistance.net. Fully featured profile pages at that site tying in with social networking concepts. Clans and Parties can be open with no invites needed and more.
